A suicide is like a stone dropped in a pond: the ripples of pain spreading out in ever-widening circles.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the world takes their own life. Every year in Canada, 4,000 people die by suicide. But even one is too many...
You can help St. Joseph's embark on Canada’s first Zero Suicide initiative. This initiative has transformed suicide rates in health systems in the United States and United Kingdom through a system-wide quality improvement initiative that sets a bold goal of reducing suicides and attempted suicides in the health care system by wrapping care differently around the individual.
Spearheading this initiative is a team well-versed in suicide prevention, including Dr. Paul Links, the Chair Chief of Psychiatry for both St. Joseph’s and London Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Links participated in the development of Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention Blueprint for the National Suicide Prevention Strategy - it’s his belief that launching Zero Suicide will set a new gold standard in mental health care across our country.
To create a permanent, sustainable and system-wide change, it will take the collective will and generous support – we hope you will join us.
