Taking care of those who took care of us The Royal Canadian Legion Tri-District A, B & C Hospital Committee

How do you say thank you to someone who has protected you from harm, risked their life for you, and given you the freedom that you enjoy each and every day?

Have you ever really considered it? Have you ever wondered what you could do to ensure the people who have given so much would always feel comfort, experience good health and live life to the fullest?

Two veteran residents enjoy themselves at Lake St. Joseph's Camp. The Royal Canadian Legion Tri-District A, B & C Hospital Committee has made it their mission to do this and care for Canadian veterans ensuring that their time served and sacrifices made will never be forgotten.
Their mandate remains the same today.

Their sole priority is to ensure that veterans, who gave so much, are taken care of, are comfortable and are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. The veterans at St. Joseph’s Parkwood Hospital and Western Counties Wing are no exception.

Over the past 17 years, The Royal Canadian Legion Tri-District A, B & C Hospital Committee has donated more than $1 million to resident veterans. Their generous gifts have made a difference in the lives of veterans and assist in making sure the best quality of life and compassionate care is possible.

“We don’t do it because we have to, we do it because we want to,” says past Chairman Bill Chafe. “Our veterans answered the call of our nation and we, who are the recipients of their efforts, need to remember what they did and ensure they are taken care of to the best of our ability”.

Their gifts have supported everything from social events, recreational outings and personal care needs. From nail clippers and razors, to supplies for social events like Oktoberfest celebrations and pizza lunches, and funding for camp supplies and opportunities for veterans to attend Lake Joseph Camp .

“Outings like Lake Joseph Camp is a whole new experience for many veterans,” says Chafe. “To be able to get out of the hospital and the normal routine, and be able to go fishing, boating, take in a sunset and chat with friends is an experience many look forward to for months. It’s an experience many talk about years after.”

Because of donors like The Royal Canadian Legion Tri-District A, B & C Hospital Committee veterans who are cared for at Parkwood are receiving the best care possible.

St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation applauds and extends its sincere appreciation to The Royal Canadian Legion Tri-District A, B & C Hospital Committee for its commitment. As members of St. Joseph’s Cornerstone Society and Hall of Heroes theirs hasn’t gone unnoticed; they are honoured at the highest levels – Champion and The Herbert Gilvear Society.
