The Veterans Tree of Caring
The Veterans Tree of Caring, an important element of the Season of Celebration campaign ensures that veterans living at Parkwood Hospital and the Western Counties Wing have all the comforts of home.
Each year, the foundation works closely with the veterans care team to identify required patient care and comfort items and medical equipment. These help to provide comfort, safety for veterans in their home at Parkwood and the Western Counties Wing while promoting their independence.
These items become the very special projects for the Veterans Tree of Caring. The 2009 projects include such items as: ceiling lifts, high-low electric beds, specialty pressure-reducing mattresses, stretchers, shower commode chairs and a specially designed recliner chair for use in the dementia care program for veterans.
And continuing with the long standing tradition of the Season of Celebration campaign, white lights of caring will adorn trees on hospital grounds – a new one lit for each gift received in support of veterans care. These special trees stand proudly in view of the rooms of veteran residents at Parkwood Hospital and the Western Counties Wing and help to bring the holiday spirit into the home and lives of veterans.
