Ultrasound has become such a regular part of medicine that it’s easy to forget how vital and remarkable the technology truly is.  Using high frequency sound waves that transform echoes into images, radiologists are able to view internal organs, body structure and blood flow.  Interpreting the image then goes beyond the technology. 

Here, science meets art as the trained eye studies the image and interprets the meaning of it - diagnosing disease or confirming health. 

More than 35,000 ultrasound examinations are performed each year at St. Joseph’s.  From sports injuries and prenatal screening to breast and prostate cancer detection and pelvic exams, this amazing equipment built upon the science of sound helps us to improve your health and save lives.

There is a quantum leap in the advancement of ultrasound technology every five years.   To keep pace with these changes and perform newly developed techniques and procedures, we must invest in new equipment today.  Our patients deserve nothing less. 

Nine ultrasound machines will be replaced over the next few years, each with a cost of $250,000.
