TSN Host featured speaker at 2012 Breakfast of Champions

Jan. 17, 2012

Michael Landsberg, host of TSN’s Off the Record, a hard-hitting, and entertaining  talk show focusing on the day’s hottest sports topics, will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Breakfast of Champions event. The event will take place on May 8 at the London Convention Centre. Tickets on sale today.

Diagnosed with depression more than 14 years ago, Landsberg considers his ability to help reduce the stigma of mental illness as his most professional calling. Despite the profoundly disturbing nature of mental illness, Landsberg believes there is still little sympathy and understanding for people who struggle every day.

Taking the stage at events such as the Breakfast of Champions is just one of the ways that Landsberg believes he can help raise awareness and help create safer environments for people to share their own experiences with the illness.

“There will never be true healing for people living with depression without openness,” says Landsberg.

With one in five Canadians living with a mental illness and only two-thirds of those people seeking care, raising awareness is critical. Breakfast of Champions is a special event presented jointly by St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and the Canadian Mental Health Association London - Middlesex (CMHA) that serves to highlight the issues of mental illness and build awareness while raising funds to support programs in the community.

A special feature of the event is the annual presentation of the “Champion of Mental Health” award, which honours a local individual and a local organization for their contributions to mental health care delivery or promotion. Nominations for the award can be made by visiting london.cmha.ca.

Tickets can be purchased online at sjhcfoundation.org.
